S50 1995 Oil change issue...

I know this seems super noobish, but I thought I'd run it by you guys after dealing with this mess on Saturday afternoon.

I was given part# 11427833769 from my dealership's parts department... that's the part # for the whole kit. The filter itself has a part number ending in "242" on the metal cap of the filter.

I removed this exact 242 filter from the housing when doing the oil change. When I put it all back together and tightened to spec (with all new cap gaskets, bolt gaskets, crush washer, etc), the housing was bubbling and leaking oil out when running. We tried torquing it down more and it would lessen but not stop.

I ended up putting the old filter back in it with all the new filter kit's gaskets and hardware, and it bubbled just a tiny bit and then stopped.

Anyone else run into this?

My fairly reliable parts guy says he remembers ~15 years ago before the E46 M3 (which by the way uses the same filter kit "769" part number), they were handing out the same M50 filter kit for E36 M3's (part# 11421730389). For shits, we pulled them both out and stood them up next to each other and the filter body itself is about 1/16"-1/8" shorter! The orings on top and bottom of the filter kits measure out to the same overall height (but they will crush when tightening).

Does anyone use the M50 filter? Confused... perhaps this is all because of a random manufacturing mistake on the particular 769 filter kit I got and I don't want to deal with oil pressure issues.

Thanks!
