Steering feel between an E39 and E53

I am in the process of selling my wife's E39 and getting a 2002 X5 3.0 with the sport package. When we drove the X5 the steering felt very tight and the steering was stiff. No noise or vibration just stiff compared to the e-39 540 I and my 2014 Fusion. Is that normal for the x5? The vehicle is one owner serviced at BMW dealership and only have 67000 miles on it.
