Hi All,
I know the fan clutch nut on an E39 is *supposed* to be easily loosened by smashing it clockwise, however, I have tried all of the following without luck:
Realise there has been a few threads on this in the past, and that it almost always comes off with a single blow, however, I'm looking for any unconventional methods I could try?
For context, I also plan to replace the fan clutch, water pump and thermo anyway....I've even managed to unfortunately chip a bit of the fan shroud doing the above but would like to try stick that back together later.
Since I'm in Australia, the counter-holding pulley tool isn't readily available here - it would cost about $60-80 to get it sent here plus about 2 or so weeks wait (including postage). The alternative I was thinking is to deliberately smash/cut the fan blades so that I can get access to lift the fan shroud off, access the front of the pulley to dismantle all as one assembly if this is even possible? Replacing the fan blade would be $80 here and can have the part next day.
Any other thoughts?

- 32mm wrench + clockwise hammer blows - 2 different types of hammers, even both at once - up to about 50 strikes now!! :(
- tried sticking a screwdriver between the pulley nuts and pushing/impacting the mallet - after a LOT of strain, i keep bending the screwdriver into a 's' curve
- sprayed anti-seize as much as I could around the 'edge' of the nut
