I started this thread at engine conversions but doesn't look like anyone is willing to answer. I'll try it here.
I have searched a lot about e34 engine swaps but I really haven't found anything that would answer my questions. I'm from EU so probably it's pretty different here and it looks like you don't like e34 way there, haha.:D
Okay, so about my plan/idea, call it how you like. I'm planning to buy e34 1.8 (M40) or 2.0 (M50). Why this choice? Because B25 costs way more and I really don't give af in what condition engine is and how much horsepower it has just because I'm searching for a car with as little rust as I can find. It's a huge problem here because of the winter, salt and blah blah blah. You can't even imgine how terrible that is. And rust is one of the reasons why I will be heading ~2000km away from here so I can buy that dime. About engines, I'm looking at M60 BUT I'm not really sure about the fitment. Does it bolt right up? I'm kinda sure it should bolt just right up but I can't really find any information. I don't really care about all the wiring etc. In here problems start when you need to wield fitments, wiring is not as a big deal. Swaps here are different if we compare M52 swaps to USA swaps, we keep everything from M52 and don't mix sensors from M50 etc. Just reprogram ECU to delete EWS/ABS/DSC etc.:D
About M60, I can't really find how good/bad these engines are. Next choice is M54B30. This one would be a killer for power/fuel consumption but I kinda think it would be the hardest to swap because of the double vanos, ews and some other things + it would be the most expensive if I remember correctly. Probably the last choice is M52B28TU but I start to think it's pretty useless because it's the same as M54 swap and costs maybe a little less. M52B28 without the double vanos, it should be easy because it's pretty much the same as doing M50TU swap. I want the car as my daily car so I can't really use some solid engines like M20/M30 or any turbo project. It's all about power/fuel consuption ratio. M54 would be the best overall but it's really expensive. If I will be putting M50B25 and upgading it just a little bit to meet about 200hp, I would be putting gas in it or it's way too expensive to ride in city. ~15l/100km in city is just too much for me to handle ATM. So what are your thouguts on each engine? Swapping them etc?
