Hello,
Today my 2005 E60 didnt start due to a dead battery. i jump started the car and checked the charging voltage in hidden menu .09 it was 11.8v while the car is running. i did some online digging and found that many people recommended changing the voltage regulator on the alternator. i did change it , but the voltage remained at 11.8v. The surprise was that when i disconnect the harness plugged to the alternator the voltage climbs to 14.1v . and the moment i connect it back the voltage drops back to 11.8v .
to do some diagnostics i tried also removing the IBS blue cable and connected the alternator plug that works also and the voltage rises to normal 14.2v when i disconnect IBS and alternator plug connected.
what could it be ?
the new voltage regulator is faulty ?
or the ibs?
or another thing ? maybe the mpm ?
PS: i am not getting any warning messages about battery not charging or low battery my idrive.
