DME questions from a novice

So basically I had to swap out my DME. I have a 98 328i and one of the features I love is the immobilizer. I just want to make sure I'm understanding that with a new DME I can't use the immobilizer and there's no way to set up the the new DME to allow for this feature.

81 E21 Front Suspension

Gents,

I have attached the picture of how my front left wheel sits. My observations are:

1) when I brake during cruise at 40-60 miles,I feel pulling of the suspension to right very slightly, its not a wheel pulling but it feels to me like the front suspension compresses but not symmetrically.

2) I had the front on jack and turning the wheel noticed a slight steering gear lash,

3) one of the lower ball joints rubber booth is torn.

I have checked the condition of the bushings and seems to be in good shape.

My questions are:

1) based on my observation and the picture, can someone diagnose what the issue is with the suspension pulling and how could it be fixed?

2) Is it possible to tighten the rack to remove the gear lash, is it supposed to have a slight lash?

3) i have reviewed the FAQ/s regarding upgrading the suspension, however since the car is very original I don't want a major suspension modification/lowering etc. Is there something I can do to slightly improve its stiffness and get a slightly tighter feel without lowering or doing any major changes?

Thanks for all the feedback.

jason

E9x FOR SALE: 2010 335i Xdrive Coupe, 6 speed manual, fully loaded

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking to sell my E92 2010 335i Xdrive, 6 speed manual transmission, Navigation, Premium and Sport packages, Space Gray exterior, Jade Grey interior, 64,500 miles. Looking for $23,000. Retail price at $54,120 in 2010.

Located just outside Boston MA.

Unfortunately practicality is trumping passion and I need a bigger car.

I bought the car certified preowned with 42,500 miles 2 years ago and have put a little over 20,000 miles, mainly highway on it since. The car just went into the 2 year extended warranty. I have all the service records and all general maintenance was performed by the dealership it was purchased from. No issues on the car just typical maintenance performed.done.

When I bought the car I the dealership gave me new rims, brake rotors and pads (20,000 miles on them, thank you wheel/tire warranty!)

The car has brand new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (225/45ZR17 fronts, 245/40ZR17 rears) about 2,000 miles on them.

Warranties to be transferred: 2 year extended warranty, Wheel/Tire Warranty, Ding/Dent Warranty

Upgrades: Only small cosmetic upgrades:
50% professionally tinted windows, black chrome OEM front grills, grey reflectors vs the stock orange, side license plate bracket (no holes in front bumper), Venture Shield clear protector.

Car can also come with a set of Blizzack snow tires with enough tread for at least 1 more season and winter floor mats for the right price.

Having issues posting pictures of it but PM me and I'll send you all of them!!

Contact me via PM or message on this post and I'll get back to you with more pictures and answer any questions you may have, thanks!

Do I go '00 750il Chromeline or '01 750il Sport?

I currently have an '01 740il, anthracite/black with all the options (chromeline, SEDC, blinds, massaging seats etc), but it has ~165K miles on it and it is getting tired. I love the car, especially the space, but given the mileage spending much more on it isn't a good option for me.

So I've been hunting for a nice 750il for months to replace my car. I have two options and want to get feedback from the forum.

Car #1 - 2000 750il chromeline. Black on Black. 25K miles. One owner (with minor celebrity, supposedly, but no paperwork to confirm). Carfax looks fine. No records outside of carfax. A used car dealer has the car. Dealer has good ratings online. I will need to ship it across the country.

Car #2 - 2001 750il sport. Anthracite (same as my current car) on grey. 46K miles. Two owners. Some records (up to $5K of recent work by known shop from current owner who also has a 911 and seems obsessive). Private sale. Has widescreen Nav and '01 updates like clear corners. I can fly in and drive this one home.

I really wanted a different colour than my 740, which has me leaning towards the 2000. I think black/black has better resale potential in the future as well. But the recent service work and widescreen '01 have appeal. I would prefer chromeline over sport package but could go either way.

I think I can get either car for around $16K. Yes - I know that is a lot but these are unusually low mileage and well kept cars and I want something I can build on over the next 3 years. I prefer close to stock.

Which car would you recommend and why? Do I give up much getting the 2000 other than widescreen (could grab from my 740) and the corners (could also grab from my 740)?

-Jeff

Coupe is being reborn!!!

Hey all,

I've been away from BFC for quite a while...several years to be exact...although I did poke my head in every now and then to see what's happening. I added my touches to my Coupe back in 2007, and then never really made any other changes/improvements. Well....the time has come for a COMPLETE makeover!

At the end of 2007, here's what I had (as evidenced by my signature):

2001 Z3 Coupe 3.0i

VF Engineering Supercharger Kit

H&R Race Sway Bars - Front and Rear

Remus Muffler

Bilstein Sport Shocks w/ H&R Springs

19" Wheels Chromed

JVC Single DIN Navigation/DVD/CD Headunit w/internal hard-drive

Clear Marker Light All Around

Black Kidney Grill

HID Headlight Conversion

Smaller SC Pulley Wheel (1 size down)

My Car came with the ///M logo'd steering wheel and wood/leather shift knob, and had the beautiful wood upgraded interior.

...and that's how she stayed for about 7 years.

So, I sat down and re-envisioned how I wanted my Coupe to look act perform for the next 7 years, and came up with a doozy! The makeover started about 3 weeks ago, and will continue on into next year (due to the engine mods).

Here's what has happened in the last 3 weeks:

APEX EC-7's in Anthracite (9x18 fronts and 10.5x18 rears)

Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K110 (245/35/18 fronts and 285/30/18 rears)

Sparco Ring Steering Wheel - 330mm

MOMO Steering Hub Adaptor (w/ 1" spacer, and 2 resistors to keep the SRS happy)

UUC Full SS RK2 Shift Knob

UUC Full SS RK5 Ebrake Handle (got a complete new brake handle assembly too, so that I can keep my beautiful wood handle intact)

Alcantara Leather Shift and Ebrake Boots in Black with ///M stitching

Stainless Steel License Plate Frame in Matte Black

Following soon will be Oilite Bronze clutch pedal bushings, Delrin brake pedal bushings, PowerFlex Subframe, LCA, and RTABs, Meyle HD control arms, headers and catted custom mid-section, AEM Dry Cone Filter, and Schrick SC Cams (248/256).

That should do for the time being...while I start work on the big 2015 upgrade:

Ok, rant over. I'll do my best to keep this updated...no promised though. :buttrock
