1999 M3 Convt. – Climate Control manual removal

I just need to know how to take it out. I've purchase a service fix on eBay from the guy in Long Beach California who's done a bunch (and claims to be the first guy on eBay doing it) but … me not so smart.

Various YouTube videos show some kind of a bar on the bottom of the unit to release it and pull out the computer module, then apparently it's easy to remove the air conditioning module. But my 1999 E36 computer module doesn't seem to have a bar on the bottom - just a hole.

Any info is appreciated.

I also have the dreaded (Brake Light Circuit failure – See Owners Manual) problem. Had a local shop look at that – charged me $120 to tell me it would cost me $1100 from BMW but I might find one used for $500 (they didn't want to do the work.) I'm assuming these are two completely separate issues – but you know what they say about assumptions...

The thing is, I'm selling my car. (73K miles – Black and Tan – great shape but for these two electronic issues and a ding on the front fender from a palm frond.)

I'm thinking I either fix the brake controller issue for ~$600 (as I'm doing for the climate control for $60) -or- end up having to sell the car for ~$1200 less because people are scared away (“What ELSE is wrong with it he's not telling me about???”)

Thoughts?

Thanks for you time!
