So I got a rockchip 8 months ago and recently bought a repair kit. Two suction cups and a little thing you screw down towards the hole and you pour epoxy/resin in and it fills the chip. I screwed down too tight and made a crack - seems obvious not to AFTER the fact. Crack is almost 2" from side to side. So much for a REPAIR.
Then the next week I got ANOTHER chip.
Since I bought the car there has been a 6" crack behind the mirror that only I ever see, but it's worried me with using the defroster.
PO painted the car, and painted OVER the windshield trim, SO when the windshield gets replaced, the trim will chip up a bunch of the paint. Not very excited at all about that!
ON TOP of everything, I'm clearly concerned about the price of a windshield and I just can't seem to find a solid answer online, it's as if I'm the first person to ever ask?
1995 740i basic glass, I can tell the PO put a non-bmw glass in there before as it has no BMW markings on it.
I figure what happened is when they painted it they went to remove the mirror to take the windshield off, but cracked it and said the heck with it - instead of breaking it and replacing it, just leave it on and paint over the trim. Also, the trim was GLUED in at the top which plugged the drains and when I cleaned them out last summer there was quite a bit of rust in the holes. All in all, I've been very worried/stressed about having to replace the windshield and with cold weather coming I know I'm going to have to in no time thanks to this latest crack.
Anyone around the GTA do theirs, where, what'd it cost? I see prices online from $120 to $600, so it's not a very good baseline.
