enable (not activate) sirius radio in 2010 328xi??

I recently purchased a 2010 328xi sedan and it doesnt "have" sirius radio. It has the nav package, ipod (30 pin)and Bluetooth. I was told by the salesman that they can "enable" it in my particular radio, as the head unit was replaced with a newer one just before the dealer sold it to me. he says its in the radio, just not enabled and it costs $350, and will include a 1 year subscription.



Does this sounds right??



if thats the case, can they also enable the "advanced bluetooth" so that i can stream music from my iphone?

Ground Controls ordered what else should I replace?

Ok I have my ground control coilovers ordered but what else should I get? The car is a 1995 540i 6 speed. Everything feels tight up front and in the back. Is there anything I should replace while I have it apart though? I plan on doing sway bar links but I'm not sure what else. Thanks in advance for the help.

How do I test a manual transmission without it being in a car?

Hey guys,



I have an E30 Getrag 260 transmission sitting in my garage that I'd like to sell.



Problem is, I've never seen it in operation (I bought it along with a M20 engine years ago as a project, but never found the time to work on it).



Now I want to sell it, but I want to make sure it has no problems before I sell it.



Is there a way?



The selector shaft seems to move in and out just fine and the input/output shafts rotate smoothly.



The input shaft has an ever-so-slight amount of play but it may be normal... anyone know?

To buy or not to buy

all my bmw experience comes from e 23, e30 cars. Im a novice at these fancy e 39's



But nearby there is this immaculate grey 2002 w black leather, manual with 235K on it, i think it has a the sport package, small steering wheel, etc. recarro type seats, with insane amount of adjustables, etc. and just about every option you can get. Interior and exterior perfect.



all electrics work. Tires are marginal. Torque and HP surprised me. strut/ shocks / steering seem fine.



Issues: soot in the id of tail pipe pipe, maybe from crankcase vent valve ?, ( the PO used top synthetic and changed oil at the right intervals) . Ill probably do a oil pressure check as well.



ABS light is on: Module?



Starting out in 1st and second it feels like the pressure plate cant hold the torque and I feel it jittering/ stuttering a little until higher rpm. doesnt do it at high rpm or in 3rd or 4th. Is changing clutch and PP any big deal on this model or just normal ? What is the good clutch and PP for this car?



I think I can get it for $2200. :redspot

My' 00 528i is missing some pieces around the rear passenger center vent. It is missing the cup holders and the piece right above the air vent assembly. I've searched to find these parts, but not having the proper name yields poor search results. Any idea what the two pieces are called? You know a source by which to procure these interior parts?

Securing an E36 in an enclosed trailer, advice suggestions

I an getting a 22-24 foot enclosed trailer for my track E36.



I am looking for solutions to exiting car in trailer, or rely on winch for loading?



I am also looking for solutions to securing the car. Trailer has 4 D rings, but I can add anything that will make life easier and the car more secure. I have no experience with enclosed trailers. I have used an open trailer and know how to secure the car there. However, the limited access to the sides of the car when it is in the trailer concern me. Can I use the front and rear tow hooks as attachment point for straps?



I'm looking for E36 specific suggestions if possible. Bolt on tow hooks on both sides of the bumpers, tow points, etc. The slots for the factory hold downs aren't accessible with the car in the trailer and they don't allow for straps to go forward to the existing tow hooks. I've got about 5" of ground clearance so I can't run the straps that go around the wheels to the forward existing D rings.



I'm thinking of mounting more D rings outside the wheel width of the car so I could use wheel straps without running into the body/wheelwells of the car.

Is my mechanic right?

2008 535i with Dinan upgrade . every morning when the car is cold it idles very rough and when giving gas it sputters and hesitates.

This only lasts until the car is warm, then it runs normal. Although the car does not idle as smooth as it used to since this problem started.



The car has all new spark plugs and all maintenance up to date. My mechanic says that it is the direct fuel injectors and that one of them is misfiring. Options laid out by him: replace all injectors or wait for car sensor to pick it up and code so that he will know which one to replace. . My car has been running like this for four months and I am starting to wonder if there may be another issue?



Any ideas.

Dash Instrument Cluster - Warning Lights not working

Hi, I just purchased a 2000 Z3 2.8 5 Speed roadster. Anyway the car has 170,000 miles and the middle section of warning lights on the dash do not light up. (seatbelt, check engine(required for emissions testing), Catalytic Converter overtemp, rollover. I have checked the bulbs and fuses both looked good and even swapped them around a little with the same results.



The DSC, airbag, hand brake, gauges, mileage lcd all work, with that being said the back lighting is a little dim.



Anything I should test next? What are the issues with getting a used cluster? What years of e36 clusters work with the z3? Would I need the cluster reprogrammed? Should I try baking the cluster, have seen a few people literally put their clusters minus the gauges and plastic cover in the oven with mixed results.



If I test the wiring harness power which ones control the power to the warning lights I mentioned that are out and also what specifically should I test, I know I can find a multi-meter somewhere around the house.

Have a 2004 bmw 745i. I was wondering if this year model has all the bugs sorted out. Or are they just as bad as the 03? Can I please get some quick input. Recently traded my 03. No problems. for a lesser mileage 04. Give me some input for those of you with years of experience with these cars.

I planned on restoring this good condition 1985 325e 5-speed coupe, but my schedule's just too busy. The car came with a TCD Stage 1 turbo kit, a Ground Control/Bilstein suspension setup, a TCD/Southbend Stage 2 Kevlar clutch ,and a Z3M short shifter. The E head has been ported for better airflow. It also has a later model steering rack, good for <3.5 turns lock-to-lock, and a welded 3.73 diff for drifting. Interior is tan w/decent condition comfort seats, pretty good carpet. E30 Steering Coupler

So I'm desperate to find a steering coupler/steering column U-joint. It needs to be from a late model e30 with airbags. I ordered one off ebay and the part that showed up today is the wrong one. No idea how someone can send the wrong part after putting pictures of the part I need on the ebay ad, but the seller lives in California so his brain is probably fried. I need the part asap. call/text 7708658070, leave a comment, smoke signals, morse code whatever I just need to get sideways in my car this weekend.



So we're totally clear on what part I need. It is the longer coupler in front of the smaller useless to me coupler touching the redbull can.

Bad rings? or valve issue?

Having trouble with my 95 525i. The engine will not start but it will turn over, The cylinder pressure is about 30-60 psi short of optimum pressure, I am getting spark, Gas, And air. Also while removing the spark plugs I noticed that there was quite a lot of oil in the spark plug pocket.

Anyone use POR 15 Glisten PC on polished/painted wheels? Just looking for feedback.

However, i ran into a forum (am not marketing it by any means) that explains how to make volvo's headlamp wiper blades for less than 5 bucks and 30 minutes of your time. Am sure this will apply to our bimmers as well.

1992 525iT Absurd Lifter Tick Problems

This all started about a week and a half ago when I noticed while driving my brother home from work that one of my lifters was going crazy.

That was of course frustrating, but I had some stuff to try to fix it, and at first it seemed to work.



I had had the oil changed at Pep Boys (because I've gotten lazy and cheap) and now probably never will again. The work order said they replaced the oil and filter, but I'm a little skeptical. Anyway, 1000 miles after that oil change, I changed it again, thinking crappy oil, or dirty oil, or a clogged filter might prevent sufficient oil flow to the lifters. So I used Quaker State 10w40 and a FRAM (unfortunately the only one I could get after 3 stores) filter.



The day after the oil change, I drove it to class. It started out tapping, but by the time I got on the freeway, it was good! Two days later, tap tap tap... I added oil, and it shortly went away. Two days later again, and I got home after classes tonight to find it tapping once more. I drove to my brother's place and back a bit later, hoping it'd clear up, but it was a no-go. 4 miles freeway driving and it was gone. Parked it for 5 minutes to move cars and when I started it up once more it was back.



This behavior really doesn't make much sense to me. I understand principally why a lifter may begin to tick, but not why it would alternate between ticking and not ticking.

I'm sort of at my wit's end here, and very frustrated. The only thing I know of and have left to do before tearing into the head during my spring break is try overfilling the engine with oil by 0.5qt. That failing (and I strongly believe it will) I'll have to get a fairly pricey 32mm socket for the tensioner, some spare lifters (in case I find one or more of mine are SERIOUSLY toast), some laquer remover, and thoroughly clean the lifters. That whole operation has me concerned because I've never done cam removal/installation on an M50.



So before that point, I'd really like to make sure I haven't missed anything obvious, not obvious, or completely obscure.

Also to get advice on the lifter rebuild should it come to that.



Please lend me your experience and knowledge.

1992 525iT Absurd Lifter Tick Problems

idle issues.

let me make this quick , and hopefully get some real help. my bmw 325i 1992 non vanos to vanos conversion car is giving me an idle issue.when i turn on the car it quikly shuts off, but when i give it gas it stays on until i let go of the gas and then the rpm drops and it shuts off. if i let go of the gas slowly i can sometimes get it to idle but it will idle low and move up and down a bit and rough and eventually shut off. i have checked the MAF , i cleaned the ICV and now im thinking that it may be the camshaft sensor. Will a bad cam sensor do this? will bad timming cause this..what could be causing this problem.any ideas?

EML + traction control and crazy idle

Hey guys..



So I just got my 2001 330Ci running again after a few months as I had been super busy with work (out of time) and holidays/ect. We I just got the starter in 2 nights ago and everything was running perfect. Today I took the car for a short drive (going to pickup a package) about 5kms away. I puled out and spun the tires a bit on some ice. 10 seconds later (when I reached the stop sign) the EML and traction control lights popped up and idle was bouncing around 500-1500 rpm and I had 0 power.. I pulled over and restarted the car and no lights but still a wacky idle. I left it for about 2 mins and then it got fairly steady around around 1krpm. I give it a bit of gas and the rpms just drop (straight from 1000 to around 300 and then back). I thought maybe an issue with the MAF so I unplugged it and tried again and same thing. I left it for a few mins and poped the battery off. Started it and idle was ok and appeared to be fine. I turned around and started back home. Then same issue with EML and traction lights and horrible idle. I turned car off/on and it went away for a couple mins. then I get to my driveway and it takes me 5 mins to get it into the driveway as idle is not allowing me to accelerate (I couldn't make it up the small slope). I get it into position and plug in my battery tender and leave it (I also noticed oddly enough that the fan was still running for the rad.. I went out 30 mins later and it was off).



I am going to go out with BMW scanner and see if it brings up any codes tomorrow. But curious if anyone has any ideas. I had a similar issue last year that I believe the code was for IAC control valve. I poped it off and cleaned it and the issue gradually went away..



Also the car is tuned from AA with a stage 2 blower and the last 2 days the weather has been pretty nice out around 10 degrees C while today it was around -10 C. Also seems odd how it only happened right after spinning my tires on some ice.



Thanks and I will update tomorrow with any codes but if anyone has any advice in the meantime that would be great.

I refinished a set of IFG 17x8 wheels and test fitted one today. Car has bc coilovers, but I like a stock ride height. I have new 225/45/17 tires, but what other size would you, could you, run and be ok with? Just trying to get a few ideas before I mount them for good. Thanks

I have and E39 XENON Headlight with a broken lenses but the light is in working order.



Can you replace just the lense if so where can I get the part at a reasonable price?



My local auto recyclers have non xenon HL would all the parts from my xenon fit with this housing?

First BMW, couple questions on 540i

I found a very nice looking 540i 2001, has little less than 100,000 miles.$5500.00

Owner says it has M Sport package (?), and has lot of maintenance done which he has records. He also said that the following needs to be done for car to be up to date

ABS module, ac auxiliary fan, timing chain cover gasket kit, Radiator and expansion tank I am pretty handy with cars so after looking at some things, I think I can handle most of this. My questions are

Is it worth it ?

Best place to get the parts without breaking the bank ?

Should I pay someone to do the radiator and expansion or tackle myself ?

First BMW, couple questions on 540i

Hi guys, just wanted to try and share a bin file have been working on the past few months. here is my setup, the main thing about this tune is that is contains the mas air flow funtion for the HPX ford style MAF http://ift.tt/17xd8Es I talked to the guy from hpx and figured out how to scale it. this means we are no longer stuck with the Porsche maf, or the miller maf. This is also the same maf that comes with the TRM turbo kit. I hope I don't make other tuners too mad, I don't believe I am ripping anybody off since I have re-scaled almost every aspect of this tune. I am tired of the BMW tuning community being stuck in the stone ages, everyone acts like they have to make money off this stuff that is already open source.

I have put 5k miles on this tune with no issues.

I was running 1 bar on this tune but i turned it down so i wouldn't put the car into a telephone pole.

They are pretty beat up, used previously on a strictly race car so they have their fair share of nicks, rash, and tape residue but would be perfect for a spare set of HPDE/Auto-x wheels or if someone wants to spend the time to clean them up and refinish them too. 530i Sport, Bilstein B4 Part #?

It's past time that I do the struts/shocks on my 530i, but I've having some difficulty navigating the mix of information out there..



2003 530i Sport, not lowered, not planning to lower, reusing stock (sport package) springs.



From what I've gathered, the OE struts/shocks are basically Sachs, so if you want more of a true "stock replacement", the Sachs are the way to go, but although opinions vary, I've see lots of comments that they don't last that long. As for Bilstein's, they have a better warranty, and from what I've read the B4's (Touring) are the equivalent to the stock. This is a daily driver, not road racing, no plans to lower, just want the stock ride/performance restored.



All said, anyone know for sure what the correct part numbers are for the B4's for an E39 w/sport suspension? Some sites don't list a difference between the std vs sport suspension, others do, so...:dunno:

Would E34 headlights fit into a E30?

I have a custom built set of headlights for my old E34 91 I was wondering if they would fit into my 86 E30? I presume the housing wouldn't but if i remove the lights from the housing and put them into a E30 housing would they work? I know its kinda a weird question but thought I would ask before I go to the trouble of pulling out my E30 headlights? Thanks in advance :)

AC compressor clutch help!

I had to cut the belt on my AC compressor the other day because it seized up. This is a reman compressor I got just over a year ago(I know because it had a 1 year warrenty) and its gonna get hot here in AZ soon. I have spent a few days looking and cant find a clutch for my Denso AC compressor (E30) and most of the yard out here are picked clean of AC parts. Any body know of a site(reliable preferably) to get a new clutch for my AC compressor?

Hey guys i was wondering and more like i need to get as much information as i can to swap in a 2jz into my e46 bmw 330i. The engine is getting old and i dont want to turbo it because i would need to do an engine rebuild along with it and i would like to try something new. Im gonna need to know how this swap will be done if you guys could give me as much info as u can that would help me alot. Parasidic drain on battery...

Not to beat a dead horse, but is there any benefit to not leaving the keys in the ignition if you're not going to drive it for a few days? I just let the old bitch sit up for a few days, and she rewarded me with two dead batteries. Does the key in keep certain systems powered up in standby? A few days without driving, and with relatively new batteries, shouldn't cause them to drain down that quickly I would assume. Battery charger got me back to 100% on both.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Unusual suspension swap

Hi all,



OK, so I have my old 523i (which will soon be sold), and my "new" 530i (which I love).



Currently, the suspension is as follows:



- 523i has stock springs (non-sport), completely refreshed with Bilstein HD and all new rubber bits/bearings. Refresh done only 20k km ago. I love the ride.



- 530i has stock (original) M-sport II suspension.



I would like to swap everything between the cars, EXCEPT the springs. That is, the 530i will end up with Bilstein HD and M-sport II springs. The 523i will end up with non-sport springs and M-sport II shocks.



Will either car have problems with this setup?

Track day @ Gingerman Raceway April 4th

My club is hosting a track day at Gingerman Raceway on April 4th. They are not looking to make a buck, just to have a nice uncluttered track day with lots of track time. Let me know if you have any questions.

Format

Your car will be teched by a PAPA member. Track goes hot at 8:30. Drivers meeting at 8:00. Event schedule will be released later. 20 minute sessions around 2 hours of track time. There will be 3 classes. Two novice and one intermediate class. People deemed in the intermediate class has the option to run in a novice class instead.



Rules

Passing-There is no passing in the turns. You can only pass another moving car on the track with a point bye. Passing car must go offline to pass.

Front windows must be open on track.

Some Thoughts About using Fluid Extractor

I've been using a fluid extractor since this summer and I thought I'd share a small review about this relatively inexpensive unit (not affiliated in any way).

Here is the link on amazon:

Had it at my door for less than $50 shipped.



Some of the reasons I bought this unit:

• Inexpensive


• All metal construction. This is a major plus since some plastic fluid extractors are known to implode under vacuum


• 2 Gallon Capacity


• Compact size

I always changed the oil using normal method (using oil drain plug). However, I've been intrigued by how using the fluid extractor, you don't have to get under the car to change the oil for our BMWs, since the oil filter is changed from the top.



Anyway, the fluid extractor I bought works well for both E34 and E39, since the supplied tube is the perfect size for the dipstick hole. It is about half times as slow as the drain method. I usually set this up first then change the oil filter, and it completes its job by the time I'm done with changing the filter and doing usual checks around the car.



I also used this for other fluid changes, like sucking out the fluid out of brake reservoirs and p/s reservoirs. I cleaned the hose each time when using for different type of fluids. It has multitude of other uses(boats, farm equipment, cleaning up spills around the house, etc).





For less fortunate folks like me who doesn't have a garage and works on their cars outside, this is a neat tool to have.

Another advantage that once I'm done with oil change, I just screw the caps on to store the oil, and I simply carry it as is to any place that takes used oil.
