1995 540i/6
$5,500

Oxford Green over Parchment Tan
Waco, TX Clean Texas Title In Hand
I purchased this car and another 530iT (of the same color) with the grand ambition of making a 540iT/6. Given that I'm not a mechanic, I'm working 120 hours a week, and I've started travelling quite a bit for work, such an ambitious project has been scrapped. I have a bunch of cars right now and a few more on order, so it's time to thin the herd and part with those cars that I don't drive often.
The car was purchased from a forum member in Massachusetts and shipped to Texas where it has resided since. I purchased this particular car because I was having a difficult time finding a 540i/6 at the time, it was green, so it matched my other car, and it seemed nice enough to daily drive so that I could make sure I wanted to commit to the 540iT/6 project, but not so nice that I'd feel bad cannibalizing it . Before driving it myself, it was inspected by a reputable race mechanic near Boston. He indicated the car had lots of new parts, but needed some attention, so a few things were tended to. Now, it's one of the few E34's that features ZERO mechanical or electrical defects (save the passenger side thigh support). Everything mechanical or electrical works as BMW intended it to.
Repairs made in the past 8,000 miles (all work was performed by my local, indie, ASE certified specialist)(receipts of all work may be provided upon request):
- new radiator
- heater core replaced
- all 4 windows have new regulators and motors installed
- traction control unit replaced
- both oxygen sensors were replaced
- new water pump
- AC was charged
- all exterior door trim is new
- seat twist correct in both seats (this support in passenger seat is inoperable)
Upgrades performed on the car:
- used e36 evo wheel was recovered with fresh leather and installed
- custom exhaust
- hardwired for a Valentine 1
- genuine m-parallel wheels and dunlop tires with 80% tread
- bilstein sports and eibach front springs
- front and rear m5 bumpers
- euro trim
- drilled rotors
- e60 545i short throw shifter
- Euro smileys with HID's
- clear corners (front, rear, and fender indicators)
- 25mm and 20mm spacers
The previous owner claimed the following was done as well: every control arm in the front end, sway bar links, brakes at all 4 corners, new MAF, K&N filter, auxiliary water pump, fan and shroud, and top radiator hose.
Known issues (photographs of each issue are below):
- passenger front seat thigh support is inoperable
- the front bumper fits poorly and is in generally poor shape
- the rear bumper trim is scratched
- there is a softball sized dent on the front, driver's side fender
- there is a hand print on the hood (from shutting it, I would assume)
- the bottom side of the passenger front door has a tiny bit of rust
- there are a few half dime sized areas where the clear coat is gone
- there are 2-3 small dings on the doors
- there is a scratch in the paint on the rear, driver's side
- the driver's seat bolster stitch has popped
- one side of the car has a pinstripe, the other does not
- there is super minor rust on the hood
- apparently, the car was wrecked at some point. The passenger side front fender fits terribly. The alignment with the hood and bumper aren't to a professional standard. You can't notice it at first glance or second, but when you spend a few minutes looking at it, you'll notice it.
- the passenger side side skirt is scratched
- the e39 m5 rear spoiler was poorly installed
- two, tiny rust spots at the bottom of the trunk
- the passenger seat seam is worn
- the rear seat has two, tiny burn marks
- the rear parcel shelf fabric is a bit loose
- the driver's seat is spotted
Concerns:
- None. This car is perfectly driveable and a lot of fun.
All in all, this is an EXCELLENT 10' car. The car has never been waxed, detailed, or had the leather conditioned. I suspect that a good detail would really improve the appearance of the car. Like the other car, I was a bit surprised when I took delivery and found so many "minor issues": minor scratches, dings, and paint discoloration issues that didn't show up in the photos (which is why I did my best to document the blemishes). From 10' away, it looks truly excellent and receives compliments often. I'm a perfectionist and will paint the car if I keep it, but I just want anyone who will consider the car to see it from my perspective so that they aren't disappointed. The paint is super shiny over 90% of the car and the car itself really looks sharp in person. Also, I had the wheels refinished to perfection, but 3 of them have been curbed since. It's not terrible, but it's something that irks me (especially since I didn't curb them). I wouldn't expect it to have any issues going anywhere. It's an extremely solid and comfortable daily driver.
I'm asking $5,500. Given what I expect to be substantial unsolicited commentary on the price, I will say a few things: I am negotiable. However, I do not need to sell the car. Unlike the 530iT, I drive this almost weekly and it brings a smile to my face every time. It's not particularly fast, it's high school loud, and it's rough around the edges, but I LOVE this car. I really do.
Also, please note that as I was looking at building my ultimate E34, I started collecting rare, awesome parts. At extra expense, I can provide:
- 850i Brakes (calipers and rotors) (calipers are used, rotors are new)
- M5 Brake Calipers (front and rear)(used)
- E36 evo steering wheel with air bag and perforated leather (new)
- everything Moosehead Engineering makes that you can put on this car (new)
- Bilstein Sport shocks (used)
- KW v2 Coilovers (new)
- 540i wheels (used)
- 750i trumpeted intake (used)
- grey, birdseye maple trim (used)
- Valentine 1 Radar Detector (new or used)
- rear m5 bumper (used)
- trip computer (used)
Also, please note that I have a 1995 Oxford Green over Dove Grey 530iT with 178,200 miles for sale (see here: http://ift.tt/1sJJDqZ) as well as a 1994 White over Tan Cloth or Leather (buyer's choice) Land Rover Discovery Automatic with 131,000 miles for sale. The 530iT was repaired to factory spec at great expense in the same manner the 540i/6. The Disco was purchased simply because it had a particular roof rack on it and can be described as mechanically strong (save the fact it needs front and rear pads, maybe rotors) but suffers typical Rover rust in the wheel arches.
Now, for the photos:
