On the way home I heard a very slight rpm dependent whine. It got progressively louder, and by the time I pulled into the garage, it was a shriek. It took about 10 minutes to go bad, and I was keeping the revs low, since I figured seizing pulley. I popped the hood and when I restarted the engine to have a look, and the sound now was so loud, I figured the pulley was good and seized.
I've been doing the cooling system piecemeal: rad, several tanks, pump, thermostat, all the hoses on the front of the motor. Last time I was in there, I regreased the pulleys, so I figure they don't owe me anything. However they all still spin (I haven't tried the A/C, but plan to change that one too). They spin pretty freely, so I figure they're dry (no grease).
I haven't gotten them off yet to check the diameters, as there appears to be some confusion as to pulley count. The accessory belt has THREE pulleys: two on the hyraulic gizmo, and one mounted below the alternator (deflector). Picture here. However the bolt through the one idler pulley that hols the assembly on the motor (the other came off OK) is stuck. I hate that.
Any advice?
