Key fob does not lock doors

I can use key inserted in the door to lock the car and to unlock it and roll down windows and open sunroof. But the key fob will not lock the doors or unlock them. The LED on the fob flashes and or is steady but no reaction from the car. I tried to initialise it but no go. The LED in the car to the right of the stick does not flash ever.
