Hi All,
I am in a bit of a dilemma whether to keep my (2001) M3 E46 convertible and would welcome some advice.
I have had my for about 5-6 years now (well maintained and full service history) and the car is soon approaching the inspection 2 service (in approx 1k miles). I understand that it is expensive, and ordinarily would get it done but I also have the following to consider:
The car is in pretty good condition for the year and has been well maintained. But I am struggling to find a solution to the rust issue (which appears common from what I have read in the forum, but lacking any real economical solution).
So the question would you recommend selling / trading in and getting something else. Or is there a solution you could recommend regarding the rust, or will I be throwing good money after bad?
I have spent many many hours thinking what I could replace this with (if I were to trade in or sell), but am unable to find anything that comes close to what I have. Does anyone have any possible alternative cars which would be a suitable replacement / equivalent. My limit for a replacement would be £14k. I would definitely want 4 seats, and not wanting a vehicle in the high road tax bracket. I have considered an Alpina D3, or 330D. But think that may full far short of the enjoyment I currently get from my M3. I would prefer 4 doors for my next car. But I want something not too common and something that feels a bit special (similar to the M3).
Thanks for any help / advise, would appreciate it.
Thanks.

- I spent over £500 last year repairing the rust on my rear wheel arches approx 7-8 months ago and it has returned.
- The convertible roof has start to leak (a little bit when I drive round a corner, I think the water settles in the roof).
- I will soon need new pads on the rear (approx 3k miles). This is not an issue, but if I decide to sell I wont spend money doing this.
- I would probably only keep the car for a further 18 months (at some point likely to need 4 doors)
