Hello good sir's and madam's, i come to you seeking knowledge of the great and wonderful S52.
All joking aside i actually have a serious question. Im planning on going FI this year and as winter is setting in i have started making plans for my engine. I have a 96 M3 and am looking to put down around 350 - 375whp ( dont laugh i know its small ). I track the car and will be racing it next season so im doing a lot of upgrades to the engine to make it bullet proof for extended periods of high rpm and making it reliable on a stock bottom end. Im putting in ARP's and a stock C/R MLS but while the head it off i was wondering if i should have it completely rebuilt and to what extent. VAC for example offers different levels of head rebuilds and at a minimum i will be having it checked out and cleaned but was wondering if its worth it for me to get some upgraded retainers, valves, seals, ect.. while im in there. I want it bullet proof so if the engine will be fine at that power on new OEW equipment then there is no reason for me to pop on the upgrades. If however you guys think i might be pushing my luck i will have it upgraded. The motor currently has 160k on it but is otherwise very healthy and is currently putting down 234whp. Im just wondering what your input is on this and what if anything i should replace anyways like lifters while in there.
Many thanks,
Pat
