Putting my 1996 BMW 328i/5 sedan up for sale. 185k miles, black on black. Owned the car for just under a year. Asking $2600
Good:
-Paint is in decent shape, 8/10
-Interior would be 9/10 if it weren't for 2 tears on the drivers seat. One on the bottom where it is starting to separate at the seams, another on the bolster., so maybe 7/10? Also missing sunroof trim panel
-NO rust
-Just had it smogged a week ago, and it passed
-Clutch was apparently replaced right before I got it, though can not confirm this; it does shift smoothly, and clutch engages predictably.
-Just replaced front brakes not too long ago. Akebono/Zimmermann blanks
-Tires were replaced less than a year ago, still lots of tread left
-Oil changes every 5k at BMW Vista
-All the seats work fine
-AC works
-All windows/sunroof works! Maybe this isn't amazing on an e36, but I swear it feels like a miracle after every single one of my e34's, e32, e39's had at least one broken at all times!
Bad:
-Coolant level sensor is bad; have part, just have not installed (Don't worry, I check the level often because of this, and it has never overheated in my care)
-Right brake light sensor has fault. Holder has melted contact. Bought brand new holder from BMW, and it just needs to be put in. I may fix this tonight
-No radio (Never had a radio in any of my cars, so I almost forgot to add this!)
-Rubbing when making sharp left hand turn. I believe it is due to loose trim as of a result of the M3 spoiler. Part of it isn't bolted down properly.
-Speaking of trim, a both the mirror covers, and right door guard pieces fell off. I have both mirror covers, but the clips are broken, and I don't believe in ghetto fixes. One of the door guards is just missing, the other is in the trunk (needs new plastic clips)
-Small oil leak somewhere. Not big enough for me to pay much attention to it, but should be mentioned. I add maybe a quart every few thousand miles.
Questionable?
-I have not touched the cooling system. I do not see any signs of leaking, and the P.O. said he had it overhauled, though I can not vouch for any of that. It seems as though it was redone at some point in time by looking at it, and it seems like it is in good shape, but I just can not guarantee whether it is only a year old, or 10.
-Suspension feels soft. Maybe e36's are normally like this and it just feels soft compared to my e39 sport and Mini Cooper S, but it if I didn't want to sell it, I'd probably throw some Bilsteins on there, and maybe some fresh bushings. I have not noticed any 55mph shimmy though (again, maybe e36's are different and I'm use to the e39/e34 crowd).
Overall, it's been a reliable little car, and has been good to me. The motorcycle bug has bit me hard though, and have a friend offering up his old bike for dirt cheap. Email and text are the two best ways to get a hold of me.
