Clean Texas Title In Hand
I purchased this car and another 540i/6 (of the same color) with the grand ambition of making a 540iT/6. Given that I'm not a mechanic, I'm working 120 hours a week, and I've started travelling quite a bit for work, such an ambitious project has been scrapped. I have a bunch of cars right now and a few more on order, so it's time to thin the herd and part with those cars that I don't drive often.
The car was purchased from a dealer in Braintree, Massachusetts and shipped to Texas where it has resided since. It occasionally ferries my dogs and serves for airport lot duty. Recently, my girlfriend drove the car for a few weeks after she sold her car, so I went through and corrected anything and everything that was an issue. Now, it's one of the few E34's that features ZERO mechanical or electrical defects. Everything mechanical or electrical works as BMW intended it to.
Repairs made in the past 5,000 miles (all work was performed by my local, indie, ASE certified specialist)(receipts of all work may be provided upon request):
- the ENTIRE cooling system has been replaced (including a new radiator)
- all 4 wheels have: new rotors, new pads, new calipers
- all 4 windows new regulators and motors installed
- the sunroof switch was replaced
- both oxygen sensors were replaced
- a new fuel tank was installed
- a new fuel sending unit was installed
- a used steering box from an MSport was installed (sans chip)
- Bilstein shocks were installed
- AC condenser was replaced
- AC was charged
- a driver's side headlight was installed
- the driver's side rear view mirror was replaced
- the HVAC controls were replaced with a used unit so that the lighting mechanism functioned properly
- the headliner was reglued
- all exterior door trim is new
Upgrades performed on the car:
- new, fresh from BMW MTech II steering wheel (not a used unit, brand new)(original airbag wheel can be included if you prefer to have an airbag)
- custom exhaust
- new Alpine receiver (with Sirius/XM)
- new Alpine speakers
- hardwired for a Valentine 1
- 35% tint all around the car
Known issues:
- the fuel filler cover is broken (it shuts and lock, but the plastic hinge is broken)
- the front bumper has a crack
- the rear bumper trim is scratched
- the third brake light lens is missing and the surround is corroded
- a German Shepherd decided to head butt the car (there is a tooth mark and a dent)
- the bottom side of the passenger front door has a tiny bit of rust
- there are a few half dime sized areas where the clear coat is gone
- there is a small dent on the front fender
- the parking light needs a bulb
- the driver's side front door brake is missing
- paint fade below rear window (I expect that this will wax and buff back to good condition)
Concerns:
- I read quite a bit about installing an MSport steering box without the chip and decided it would be a good idea. Now having done it, I regret doing it. Steering is not linear. It's fine, but annoying to me.
- The custom exhaust isn't what I would consider aural bliss. It's not too loud, but under full throttle, it sounds a bit like my S54 M Coupe and E46 M3. Hardly something worth paying for...
All in all, this is an EXCELLENT 10' car. In fact, I felt deceived when I purchased the car because up close and personal, there are numerous, minor scratches, dings, and paint discoloration issues. From 10' away, it looks truly excellent and receives compliments often. I'm a perfectionist and intended to have the car painted, but I just want anyone who will consider the car to see it from my perspective so that they aren't disappointed. The inside is in really nice condition. The front driver's seat, door pull, and armrest are worn. The passenger seat and door pull are in nice condition. The rear seat and rear seat door panels look almost brand new. The headliner is in excellent condition as are the steering wheel, dash, and center console.
The car just made an 800 mile round trip. I wouldn't expect it to have any issues going anywhere. It's an extremely solid (and comfortable daily driver).
I'm asking $4,000. Given what I expect to be substantial unsolicited commentary on the price, I will say a few things: I am negotiable. However, I do not need to sell the car. Really, I don't want to sell the car because I'm afraid I'll regret it, but it seems super silly to stockpile cars I never drive, so here it is. I feel that one can't purchase another E34 wagon in such excellent mechanical condition for the price or with the amenities, but I know that selling an old car is a crap shoot. I won't be offended by any offers, so feel free to make an offer.
Also, please note that as I was looking at building my ultimate E34, I started collecting rare, awesome parts. At extra expense, I can provide:
- real, clear tail lenses (I'm only willing to sell these at a comically high price, so unless you can't live without them, you'll think I'm nuts)(used)
- grey sport seats (I was planning on recovering with matching dove leather)(used)
- M5 Brakes Calipers (front and rear)(used)
- Brembo 540i rotors (new)
- E36 evo steering wheel with air bag and perforated leather (new)
- everything Moosehead Engineering makes that you can put on this car (new)
- Bilstein Sport shocks (used)
- KW v2 Coilovers (new)
- 540i wheels (used)
- M Parallel wheels (used, but beautifully refinished the curbed)
- Valentine 1 Radar Detector
