Driver's door lock very hard.

So I've got a slight problem with my '91 318is. The driver's side door lock cylinder likes to eat my keys. It's extremely difficult to turn, and I actually broke a key off in it the other night. Luckily, my roommate brought me my spare, and I have since started keeping a spare not only on her keychain but in the tool kit in the trunk (since I tend to use the central locking, and the trunk lock works like a charm, except when it doesn't unlock the driver's door).

The door lock itself is also very hard to push down relative to the passenger's side. How does one fix this problem? Is there a place I can drip lubricant in (say, around the lock knob or around the outside of the cylinder) to make it easier to use, or do I need to remove a door panel and change some parts?

The fact that I'm concerned about this should be an indication that I'm finally running out of major things to throw money at my e30 for, though, so hopefully that's a good sign for the Fiero that's ass-up in my driveway waiting on a new motor.
