Power Swap vs Turbo

What's up everybody? So I'm sure this has been discussed before but I want some current opinions and up to date info. I've got a 1986 325es with a 1987 325i engine in it. I would like to add a lot more power but I am having a hard time deciding which direction to go in. I would like a nice balance of cost effectiveness, difficulty, and power increase. I am familiar with some of the more popular options from checking out other threads but so far my interest has been peaked by a few v8 m62 swaps and the possibility of turbos on my current 87' 325i engine. My mechanic recommended 2 smaller turbos vs one, and I was really liking what he was saying but I'm not sure of the extent of his knowledge with these particular vehicles. so so basically I would just like some general info regarding the differences between a power swap and doing up some turbos. So mainly things like performance, power, reliability, cost and enjoyment. Thanks in advance.
