Struts Replaced on a 330i 2001 sport suspension

I have a 330i 2001 sport suspension that just replaced the struts with a Bilstein Touring 22 Can tell the difference rides and handle great but I noticed now that I have a gap that was not there before called the store FCPEuro and they told me that the height its mandated by the coil spring not by the strut, and of course before I purchased these items I contacted them and give them the details of my wheels with the assembly date. Is there any difference between struts heights? Could my mechanic made a mistake putting together? Do they need to break in? Please advice anyone The shop said that everything is in place
