Took car for emissions inspection on 1/24. They ran the car on the dyno(OBD I), 1994 325is. Car failed miserably, but I think the youngster who did the test did not really know how to do a dyno test.
So, they wanted to do a retest, but then somehow saw that coolant was leaking out from under the car onto the floor. A nice size puddle. Coolant was not coming from radiator area, but rather futher back sort at the front of the engine'.Could not tell because I could not get under car., I would say about 4-6 ounces. While doing the test there was not arunning fan placed in front of the car. They then realized the fan they had in the shop was broken, so we removed the car from the inspection station and parked it in the parking lot. The leaked stopped and after a while I removed the rad cap and checked for coolant level. It was maybe an inch down. I sat there for about an hour and then drove somewhere and that evening everything seemed okay. Same next day except coolant level down maybe an inch. I bled the car and while doing so, coolant again came running down in same area. Turned engine off, leaked stopped, tried to get under car to see where coolant was coming from, but was unable. Prior to all this I had replaced the Xpansion tank because it had a pinprick hole leak in it. Since the car did this the 2nd time I have driven it and check level everyday and seems to be okay. Checked it just before this posting and it was maybe 1/4 inch below cold mark. Temp needle never went beyond half-way. Is it possible the leak could be at the waterpump. When I removed the clutch fan, I used the wrench and tapped on it with a rubber hammer. Thinking maybe it loosened. Drove the car to store yesterday, about 5miles, came back and no leaks. ????????? Ideas and thoughts are appreciated.
