problem with trunk lock/unlock e31

i took out the glove box to repair expansion valve. i put all back together but now the trunk will only open with key. i heard the trunk lock accuator function a few times when i put pressure on the glove box lids, but now nothing. the wire is attached to the glove box tumbler. am i missing something. i of course unlocked the glove box so it is not in valet mode.
