I have owned BMWs since my first 1974 2002 but my latest model is giving me headaches! My 1986 635Csia transmission recently started to act up; dropping down into lower gears while driving. Now the transmission will not shift into anything other than 2/3rd at all.
I have researched this a bit and discovered the 1976 BMW auto transmission has a solenoid switch mounted on the transmission housing which can get saturated with transmission fluid causing a fault. I have unsuccessfully looked for a new switch with NO luck; they are not made anymore.
I love this original 2 owner CA car; has only 160k miles and is in great shape.
Has anyone out there faced the same problem? How did you resolve this?
