Not a track car really, I use it occasionally, but its my DD, knowledge here is great, so I am asking here.
its an 01 330i, 5spd. It pings, bad.
It has a shark tune, however, the ping was no different stock really, its just a bit worse at part throttle, as the shark opens it a bit faster to improve response.
The car works fine, idles fine, no codes, no loss of power, good fuel mileage, etc.
Has new plugs, I have done seafoam.
When the engine is cold it does not do it, hot it does.
I have tried a few different octane boosters, none have done a thing. Then I went a big step further, I put race gas in it, 105 oct.
How could it even ping with that in it?! The knock sensors obviously don't do anything, but with 105 race fuel, it should not ping at all, plus show zero signs of any issues at all. How can a motor so tightly controlled ping so bad?
Thanks
