How long does it take to replace a light bulb?!!!!!!!

If it is a light headlight bulb for an E91, the answer might surprise you. I have nothing but respect for the engineering, build quality, and performance of my E91. But after changing four headlight bulbs it is pretty clear that the design engineers completely ignored the service folks when the headlights were designed for this car.

To change the headlights you get to jack up the car and remove both front wheels. This gains access to the secret hatch behind which lies a beautifully designed backside to the headlamp.

Then you get to work upside down and backwards to replace the passenger side bulb that is accessible from the engine compartment. Without a mirror and a flash light I don't think I could have pulled it off.

Then to change the driver's side lamp accessible in the engine compartment, you have the pleasure of removing the air filter box, which is quite a delight in and of itself.

And there you have it. Four new bulbs.

At $135 per hour at the local BMW dealer, I wonder what the labor charge is to change the light bulb(s).

This is the first car I have owned where I spend more time taking things apart to get at the things I want to work on, than working on the things that need to be worked on.

But is all surely is beautifully packaged, with no wasted space.

So how long did it take me to replace a light bulb? I could never admit that, as it would embarrass me to say so. But at least the labor was free :>)
