My thermostat doesn't close fully (temp drops when highway driving). I'm going to replace it. Since it does not close fully, can I just drain the coolant via the radiator drain plug? The engine drain plug is blocked due to the O2 sensor according to the internet ('97 car), so I'd rather not go there. However, I'd also like to avoid a gallon of coolant spilling over the drivebelt when I pull the t-stat out.
