In AZ, you use your windshield wipers once or twice a year. In between the rubber just dries out from the sun so you are constantly replacing a part you're rarely going to use.
Now normally, I don't care as I just rainex my windshield... and IF i happen to get caught in the rain (rare but AZ monsoons move quick)... I just drive faster :)
But I finally decided to change my blades. In doing so, I discovered somewhere along the lines my arms were swapped. The long one is on the driver's side instead of the passenger side.
Figuring it's an easy swap, I started I just undid the bolt holding on each arm and tried to pull. No dice. If I pull any harder, i'm pretty sure I'm going to snap something underneath.
WTF?!!? HOW DO YOU GET THESE DAMN THINGS OFF! It's about the simplest thing ever.... and I'm stumped.
There's not enough clearance under the arm or enough geometry around the bolt to get any of my pullers hooked in properly
I've tried penetrating oil. I've tried tapping with a hammer (lightly).
I've got half a mind to say forget it. They've been like this for a while, i never use them.... and i'm just going to leave them backwards.
I've searched and I saw some special tool from BMW I may need to get. Is that really the only answer here? Do I really have to buy a special tool just to remove my wipers?
