Yesterday our U.S.-spec '84 633 got away from me in a downhill right-hand turn and ended up in a creek. I now call it "Sandy" since it brought home with it a substantial amount of creek bed sand. All in all, the car has less damage than one might expect and, more importantly, it did exactly what it was designed to do: it protected its occupants. Dawn and I are fine, thanks to the good Lord and to our Sixer which is built like a tank.
The first step is to make the car "inspectable" so that I can legally drive it, particularly to move it to where I can get it on a lift so I can assess what less-obvious damage may exist beneath.
The obviously-damaged for items which I need to acquire decent used replacements are:
a RH parking lamp lens;
a 7" x 15" Style 5 wheel with offset "20" (ours came on an E34);
and a drivers' side seat belt assembly (the latch jammed in crash and the belt had to be cut to get me out). Not sure how hard it will be to replace that belt, but it doesn't look easy; any tips?
If anyone has the above used parts that I can buy inexpensively so that I can start to resurrect Sandy and figure out what else she might need, I would be mighty grateful.
