Hi everybody.
I've got a question and a quick heads up to check something with higher mileage BMWs.
First off I noticed a big loss in oil over a couple days of daily driving and that yellow crud on the inside of my oil fill cap. I went through all of the trouble of replacing the CCV with the cold weather version(Up in Wisconsin ya know) but I still get yellow crud in the CCV tubes. The inside of the oil fill cap is consistently clean though. Like the CCV is now only kind of working. Any suggestions? (I drive 30min each way to work)
Secondly as I was replacing the ccv I also replaced the base gasket on my oil filter housing(it was leaking really bad). When I had the housing off I noticed something that was a bit troubling.
What looks to be a spring loaded oil check valve was wearing grooves into the housing.
I haven't noticed any problem because of this. I simply turned the 3 wing valve so the wings were not in the grooves and re installed the housing.
Here it is crooked in the grooves that it wore into the housing.
And here it is straight like it should be which shows the depth of the grooves.
