M230B23 wont start after stalling while at idle

First of all, hi everyone. My name is Simon and back in November I bought my first E30 - a 1983 323i coupe (manual). I've been doing a few things on it and have only just gotten it off jack stands and onto the road, so it really hasn't had much road time over the last year or so (previous owner didn't drive it).

Took it for a test drive last night after flushing the brakes - all good.

Another test drive tonight after changing clutch fluid - starts well, drives fine. That is until I pull over to tighten the lug nuts which I suddenly remembered that I didn't torque properly.

Now, I leave the engine running as I tighten the lug nuts.

While idling, the engine stalls.

I get back in and restart the engine - all good.

As I finish off the rest of the lug nuts, it stalls again.

I finish the lug nuts and get back in the car.

Attempt to start several times - no luck.

Try a clutch start - no luck.

Left for two hours and tried to start - no luck.

The engine turns over and I hear what sounds like the beginnings of ignition but it just can't get over that hump to start firing. I know all of this is useless so here is a sound recording of what it sounds like.

I know there are about a million things that could be wrong but I thought I would let some more experienced ears see what they think the problem might be. I don't have a tonne of experience with the engine side of things. Even just a list of things to try would be really handy.

One of the reasons I bought an E30 was to improve my technical knowledge thought so I guess I'm getting what I wished for haha.

Any help would be great.

Cheers,

Simon
