Before I start, I have already Google'd my answer and am still in the process of searching and working on a solution to my problem. (I hope my post may help someone in the future.)
I pulled up to my house last night and my car started smelling like smoke. My car has run fine outside of the heater blower I had to replace last week. So I extremely assumed it was snow getting into some place it shouldn't. When I started smelling the burning smell my wipers came on and wouldn't stop. I thought maybe I had accidentally bumped it. But every position did nothing except keep the wipers moving.
Didn't think about it anymore-silly me. I attempted to drive off today and the wipers came back on and before I got to the end of the street I smelled the burning smell and saw some smoke. I pulled over, popped the hood and there was a small fire in my fire wall wiring harness.
My car is a 7/90 535i manual.
-fuses 15, 24 are fine
-my backseat box is unlike any I've seen in my research
-I don't have a yellow relay
-I've removed the GM module to reset it
-there aren't many fuses in the backseat box but all are fine
-I don't have any relays underneath the dash
However, I have two orange relays in the backseat box that are side by side. I removed both of them and the wipers stopped. I chose one and figured what position allowed for the wipers to not work. Now that I've done that, I'll wait til the morning to see if my wires won't smoke. Hopefully that's the end of it then I'll just go buy another relay and put it into the other position to see if I can get normal working wipers. We'll see...I'll let you know tomorrow.
In the meantime, any suggestions?
