On my car, the rear trunk panel looks like this, and a soft-close lock catch does not fit:
But in some instructions on retrofitting a soft-close catch, the trunk panel looks like this:
There is clearly room in the second picture for the soft-close mechanism, even though the car apparently didn't come with one. But in my car, there's no room for it. What were the different panels and did they switch in a particular year, or did it depend on the options with which the car was sold? Realoem shows only 1 part number for whatever year I choose: 41348111901... assuming I'm looking at the right part... it's #2 in the diagram below:
